Job Overview

The Powder Mountain Freeride Team (PMFT) is seeking energetic, skilled, and safety-conscious Freeride Coaches to join our growing program. Under the leadership of the Head Coach and Senior Program Manager, you will be on the front lines of athlete development, helping young skiers and riders master big-mountain techniques, air awareness, and competitive strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute seasonal training programs and daily progressions designed by the Head Coach to prepare athletes for IFSA requirements
  • Lead groups of athletes through technical drills, line selection, and air-time practice while maintaining a fun and high-energy atmosphere
  • Adhere to all PMFT Handbook policies and ensure athletes follow mountain safety protocols at all times
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to athletes and professional updates to parents regarding progress and performance
  • Aid athletes during regional and IFSA competitions, including course inspection, line choice strategy, and emotional support at the start gate
  • Attend coach training sessions led by the Head Coach and other trainers to stay current on freeride trends, judging criteria, and coaching techniques
  • Assist with daily logistics, including group organization and lunch rotations, to ensure the program runs smoothly and on schedule

Requirements and/or Qualifications

  • Previous experience in guest services role as a ski or snowboard instructor or in the ski industry – preferred
  • Positive, fun, creative mindset, with ability to discuss the uniqueness of Powder Mountain
  • Ability to uphold the highest levels of guest safety during inclement weather, in 9000+ altitude, and variable snow conditions
  • Experience competing in or coaching for IFSA-sanctioned events
  • Valid IFSA L100 or 200 certification and an active IFSA coaching membership – required
  • Current PSIA-AASI certification (Level 1 or higher) – preferred
  • Able to confidently ski or ride all terrain at Powder Mountain in various snow conditions
  • A genuine desire to work with children and teenagers, with the patience and communication skills required for various age groups
  • Strong knowledge of mountain safety and a commitment to maintaining a controlled learning environment
  • 18 years of age and ability to pass background check
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • High School Diploma or equivalent – preferred
  • Crossover certification and experience – preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50lbs or assist guests onto chair lifts and into standing positions
  • Full range of body movements
  • Reach, push, pull, lift, and carry objects that may be heavy (40+lbs)
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and twisting
  • Walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain
  • Climb/descend stairs/ladders
  • Manual dexterity to operate manual tools and power equipment on a constant basis
  • Safely handle hazardous materials

Working Environment

The work environment is primarily in an outdoor environment. Work is performed outside consisting of extreme temperatures, loud sounds that may be distracting and in inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) at high altitude (9,000+ feet). This role will see sun and wind exposure on a daily basis.
