Freelance Textile Designer – Remote Contract

Responsibilities

• Reimagine classic Jamdani floral motifs into minimalist and geometric styles for a modern audience
• Collaborate with skilled artisans to bring contemporary geometric motifs, modern color palettes, and new yarn blends to life
• Experiment with different yarn materials such as cotton, mulmul, muslin, and linen blends to create innovative fabric structures
• Work closely with master weavers from important Jamdani clusters to ensure traditional techniques are preserved while incorporating modern design elements

Requirements

• Mid-level (Industry Average), Senior, Expert experience in textile design, particularly in Jamdani weaving
• Experience working with handloom techniques and yarn blending
• Strong understanding of color theory and ability to create modern color palettes
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with artisans and weavers
• Ability to conceptualize and translate designs into detailed technical drawings

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Textile Design, Fashion Design, or related field
• Portfolio showcasing previous work in Jamdani weaving and modern textile design
• Knowledge of traditional Jamdani techniques and their cultural significance

Skills

• Proficiency in digital design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Understanding of handloom technologies and their integration into modern design
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges in design and production
