Freelance Illustrator – Literary Book Project

This project seeks a skilled freelance illustrator to create approximately 50 hand-drawn, minimalist illustrations for a fiction book centered on an autistic woman in her 50s who contemplates whether the sea is her mother. Each illustration will depict the protagonist in a consistent pose on a sloping beach, with subtle variations as guided by the manuscript. The visual style should be restrained and literary, featuring a white background, simplified scenery, and no facial features. The artwork must be original and human-made; AI-generated or anime-style illustrations will not be considered. Illustrations will be integrated with text, requiring compositions that complement the page layout and fit within limited space rather than occupying full spreads. The project will run over 2–3 months, with deliverables provided in stages and full ownership of the final artwork transferred upon completion. Responsibilities Produce 50 hand-drawn, minimalist illustrations in line with the manuscript’s narrative and visual direction Maintain a consistent visual approach across all images, with subtle variations as required Ensure all artwork is original, human-made, and adheres to the specified literary style Create illustrations that work harmoniously with text and page layout constraints Provide iterative drafts for feedback and refinement throughout the project timeline Deliver final artwork in agreed-upon formats, transferring full ownership rights upon completion Skills And Requirements Demonstrated experience in hand-drawn illustration, preferably for literary or fiction projects Strong portfolio showcasing minimalist and restrained visual styles Ability to interpret narrative direction and translate it into evocative imagery Proficiency in creating artwork suitable for integration with text layouts Excellent communication skills and responsiveness to feedback during iterative review stages Commitment to delivering original, non-AI-generated artwork Availability to work on a 2–3 month timeline, delivering work in stages as required About Twine Twine is a leading freelance marketplace connecting top freelancers, consultants, and contractors with companies needing creative and tech expertise.
