About the role
Help us build a thoughtful, client-focused tax practice. Darchicourt Consulting is expanding our accounting and advisory services to include tax. We are seeking an experienced CPA to serve as our primary technical tax leader during the launch of the practice and until responsibilities are transitioned to a future full-time Tax Director. This is a hands-on leadership role for a tax professional who enjoys both technical work and building practical, scalable processes.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Darchicourt Consulting’s primary technical tax leader during the launch of the practice, until responsibilities are transitioned to a future full-time Tax Director.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of tax software, workflows, quality-control procedures, and the firm’s EFIN/e-file readiness in collaboration with firm leadership.
- Design practical workflows for client intake, organizers, engagement letters, preparation, review, delivery, extensions, estimates, and follow-up.
- Provide guidance on service scope, pricing, client fit, complexity, and capacity as the practice grows.
- Prepare and/or review assigned individual and business returns and sign as the paid preparer when required based on the individual’s level of responsibility for the return and the agreed engagement structure.
- Advise on tax estimates, depreciation, pass-through entity issues, household employee matters, planning opportunities, and other client questions.
- Participate in select client calls when technical tax expertise is needed.
- Support IRS and state notices, correspondence, and related matters for clients and returns in which the consultant is involved, subject to appropriate authorizations.
Engagement Phases
- Launch phase: Tax software evaluation and implementation; EFIN/e-file readiness; workflow and template design; quality-control procedures; pricing, scope, and capacity recommendations; and preparation for client onboarding.
- Ongoing client phase: Tax preparation and review, planning, estimates, client calls, deadline management, and notice support for the agreed initial client portfolio.
Typical First-Year Client Mix
- Simple to moderately complex individual returns (Forms 1040).
- More complex individual returns requiring additional planning or technical review.
- A limited number of business and pass-through entity returns, including partnerships and S corporations.
- Approximately 15–20 client relationships, with the total number of federal and state returns, entity relationships, and complexity reviewed and agreed before acceptance.
Requirements
- 4 Year Degree (required).
- Experienced CPA with a strong technical tax background.
Pay
Hourly starting at $125 per hour; final compensation will depend on experience, responsibilities, and whether work is structured hourly, by project, or by return.
