About the Opportunity
The Fractional Law Firm Accounting Manager is responsible for managing accounting services for a portfolio of law firm clients. This role ensures financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and exceptional client service while overseeing complex legal accounting operations. In addition to managing client accounts, the position mentors team members, improves internal processes, and supports the continued growth of the organization's fractional bookkeeping and accounting department.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for a portfolio of law firm clients.
- Review monthly financial packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before delivery.
- Manage complex trust account reconciliations, cleanups, and multi-entity client onboarding.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members through coaching and training plans.
- Oversee onboarding and implementation for new bookkeeping clients.
- Develop, improve, and maintain internal workflows and quality control processes.
- Monitor team portfolio performance and provide key metrics and updates to the Director.
- Perform accounting functions including data entry, trust account reconciliation, and financial reporting.
- Manage integrations and synchronization between accounting systems and legal billing software.
- Support business development efforts and represent the accounting team at client events when needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience in a professional services environment.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising accounting staff or managing client accounting operations.
- Extensive legal accounting experience, including law firm workflows and IOLTA trust accounting compliance.
- Experience managing a portfolio of at least 30 client accounts simultaneously.
- Expert knowledge of financial statements, variance analysis, and trust account management.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Clio, and other legal accounting technology platforms.
- Ability to quickly learn new accounting systems and technologies.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA license or progress toward CPA certification or a Master's degree is preferred.
Pay
Salary: $80,000–$90,000 annually, based on experience.
