Key Responsibilities
- Advises on strategic expansion into new states
- Coeordinatess entity registrations and business filings
- Manages state compliance requirements
- Works with local counsel and regulatory agencies
- Maintains state filing and renewal calendars
- Drafts and maintains employee handbooks
- Develops and reviews HR policies and procedures
- Advise on multi-state employment law issues
- Reviews employment and independent contractor agreements
- Provides guidance regarding workplace compliance and employee relations
- Advise executive leadership on legal and regulatory matters
- Develops internal compliance policies
- Conducts legal risk assessments
- Monitor changes in state and federal regulations affecting operations
- Partner with the CFO on:
- State tax registrations
- Business licensing
- Workers' compensation registrations
- Unemployment accounts
- Regulatory filings
- Contracts & Business Operations
- Reviews and negotiates vendor agreements
- Drafts and maintains business contracts
- Standardizes legal templates and operational documents
- Supports strategic partnerships and growth initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar license in good standing
- 7+ years of corporate, employment, compliance, or general counsel experience
- Experience serving as in-house, outside, or fractional General Counsel
- Experience managing business, compliance, and expansion matters in New York, Ohio, Florida, and Massachusetts
- Prior experience supporting a law firm or professional services organization
- Strong executive presence and business judgment
About the Role
This is a business-focused role responsible for supporting the firm's expansion, compliance, and operational initiatives. This position is separate from the firm's litigation practice and will work directly with the CEO, CFO, and executive team.
