Duties

  • Perform instruction, administration, and coordination of various EMS, fire and rescue training and education programs at the Fire Rescue Academy.
  • Provide and support of training programs for recruit programs.
  • Aid with planning and execution of various research & development of training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent.
  • Retired sworn police or fire department employee.
  • Current MFSPQB, NBFSPQ, IFSAC, or DoD-IFSAC (Pro Qual) certification as a Fire Service Instructor I and II.
  • Preferred: Current MICRB certification as an Emergency Services Instructor.

Conditions of Employment

  • Variable work environment, including office, indoor, and outdoor settings.
  • May be required to work some flexible hours based on the needs of the various assignments.
  • May be required to wear professional casual attire or required attire as identified by the department.
  • May be required to work independently without close supervision.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be required to wear personal protective clothing.
  • May be required to work in potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather and travel conditions.
  • May be required to lift and carry equipment and objects.
  • May be required to participate in fire prevention inspections activities.

Benefits

  • Not eligible for Baltimore County Government benefits other than those required by the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act.
  • Eligible for benefits upon hire, unless noted otherwise.
  • Part-time employees must be scheduled for four (4) full work days plus two (2) hours each week to be eligible for benefits.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts allow for pre-tax dollars to be set aside for eligible unreimbursed medical care expenses and/or dependent care costs.
  • Life Insurance offers basic term life insurance for employees equal to one time the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000.
  • Retirement employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
