Job Summary

At Kansas City Public Schools, teachers play a crucial role in student success. As a teacher, you will inspire and challenge students to achieve their highest potential, fostering a love of learning and creating a safe and supportive environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that meet state and district standards, engaging all students in active learning.

  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and technology tools to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.

  • Continuously assess student understanding and adjust teaching methods to improve outcomes.

  • Collaborate with instructional coaches, department chairs, and fellow teachers to enhance curriculum alignment and instructional practices.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring

  • Regularly assess and analyze student performance through formative and summative assessments.

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive student records, including grades, attendance, and progress reports.

  • Use data to drive instructional decisions and provide targeted interventions as needed.

  • Work with various stakeholders to ensure students' individual needs are met.

Classroom Management and Student Engagement

  • Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture where all students feel respected and motivated to succeed.

  • Manage, supervise, and ensure the safety, behavior, and well-being of students.

  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to minimize disruptions and maximize learning time.

  • Foster students' social-emotional development by integrating trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches.

  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, and necessary stakeholders to address behavior concerns and support student growth.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field

  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate or eligibility for certification

  • Strong understanding of curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management

  • Experience with or commitment to working in diverse, urban school environments

Physical Demands:

  • Sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, use hands, fingers, and reach with hands and fingers

  • Bend, stoop, and lift objects of at least ten pounds

  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Visual ability requires mono and color vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
