Founding Engineer

Notch is a habit tracker built in the discipline of an engineer's daily log. You will be the second engineer — meaning you write the parts the founder is too close to, and you push back on the parts that need pushing back on.

The Work

• Own the iOS app — SwiftUI, native, fast. Animations that earn their place.
• Help shape what "habit tracking without gamification" actually looks like in product.
• Take the early-user feedback loop: read every report, triage weekly.
• Pair with the founder daily for the first three months. After that, split the codebase by area.

First Six Months

A real plan, not a wish. What success looks like, broken down by month, so you and we both know what we are agreeing to.

• Month 1–2: ship v0.x polish — onboarding, widget, daily review screen.
• Month 3: open beta via TestFlight, pull the first hundred users in.
• Month 4–5: macOS companion app — same data, different surface.
• Month 6: v1.0 App Store launch + pricing decision.

Requirements

• 3+ years in iOS, at least 1 in SwiftUI in production.
• Comfortable with Core Data or SwiftData. HealthKit integration a plus.
• You think about typography, spacing, motion — not just functionality.
• You are okay being the second engineer. Not lead, not founder. Second.

Nice to Have

• Has shipped a habit/journal/tracking app before — and learned from it.
• Uses Notch already (TestFlight invite on request).

Compensation

• Senior craft compensation, structured as runway.
• Equity in Notch as it forms.

• Software team: Notch solo development (you'd be #2)
