Founding DevOps Engineer - California

About the role

We’re hiring a Founding DevOps Engineer to help us build and scale secure, reliable, and cost-efficient infrastructure for a fast-moving startup.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure across multi-cloud environments
• Improve uptime, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across our platform
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and internal developer tooling
• Automate infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code
• Strengthen our security posture across cloud, application, secrets, access control, and runtime environments
• Partner with engineering to improve build speed, release quality, and operational maturity
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response processes
• Troubleshoot production issues quickly and systematically
• Write code and scripts to automate operational work and eliminate manual toil

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering
• Strong hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and/or Azure
• Experience with modern DevOps tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar CI/CD systems
• NewRelic, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, or similar observability tools
• Solid scripting or coding ability in languages such as Python, Go, Bash, or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Strong understanding of Linux systems, networking, IAM, secrets management, and production debugging
• Strong understanding of security tooling and concepts, including vulnerability management, cloud security best practices, least privilege, secrets handling, and secure software delivery
• Experience supporting high-availability production systems
• Ability to move quickly, operate independently, and make sound engineering tradeoffs
• Comfortable with ambiguity, ownership, and startup pace

Qualifications

• Nice to have: Experience in multi-cloud architecture, experience with enterprise environments, compliance, or customer security requirements, experience with incident management, on-call processes, and postmortems, familiarity with security scanning, container security, SAST/SCA, or cloud security tooling, experience building internal platforms or developer infrastructure, experience working at a startup or high-growth company

Skills

Base salary: $100,000 – $210,000
