Founder in Residence - Venture Builder
Cofound is a venture studio that co-founds software companies with domain experts. You bring deep knowledge of one industry and real relationships inside it. We bring the engineering advice, the capital, and the entire operational stack of a company. Together we build a business that has customers, revenue, and a path to raise. This is not an accelerator, an incubator, or a job with equity attached. You will be the founder and CEO of a new company. We are your co-founder, and we stay involved for the life of the business—not for twelve weeks. You do not need an idea, write code, or prepare a pitch deck. You need to understand a problem better than almost anyone else and know the people who have it.
About the role
- Identify a specific, expensive problem inside the industry you came from, and the segment that pays to solve it
- Write and defend a business plan for the company you intend to build
- Sell before you build—win your first three paying customers from your existing network, not from cold outreach
- Work alongside our engineers to define and ship the first version of the product
- Take the company through incorporation, banking, compliance, and first hires with our team handling the machinery
- Own the commercial side permanently: pricing, sales, customers, direction
- Lead the seed raise with us, on the back of real revenue rather than a deck
Requirements
- Five or more years inside a specific industry—consulting, operations, a specialist function, or a regulated field
- Genuine credibility in it; you can get ten meetings this week on the strength of your name
- A view on what is broken that you formed by living it, not by reading about it
- The willingness to sell; if you will not pick up the phone, nothing else on this list matters
- Commitment measured in years, not months
What we bring
- Engineering – our team builds the software with you, from first prototype onward
- Capital – funded from day one, a founder salary while you build, and we run the seed process once you have hit real milestones
- Infrastructure – incorporation, cap table, banking, accounting, compliance, hiring, growth systems, investor access
- A co-founder – someone accountable alongside you in year one and year five
Compensation and equity
You keep 65%. Cofound.com holds 35%, on the same vesting terms you are on. You draw a founder salary while you build. If 35% sounds steep, compare it to the right thing: a traditional co-founder takes 40–50% and arrives with a laptop and an opinion. We take 35% and arrive with an engineering team, capital, and the operating system of a company. 65% of a real company beats 100% of the one you never started.
Who this is for
Operators, consultants, and specialists who have spent years somewhere specific and have thought seriously about starting something—but were never going to do it alone. If you have quietly known for two years exactly which company you would build, this is the role.
Who this is not for
- Anyone looking for a salaried job with equity attached
- Anyone who wants to be handed an idea and told what to build
- Anyone whose network is a contact list rather than a set of relationships
- Anyone who wants to test this alongside their current role
