About the role

As a Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our construction projects, specifically our Virginia Beach flood mitigation project. This 5+ year initiative aims to improve stormwater management, protect water supply, and relieve flooding in neighborhoods throughout Virginia Beach. You will collaborate with industry experts and committed teams to ensure project compliance with contract drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan work methods, materials, equipment needs, and work schedules for assigned project work.
  • Review daily work schedules with direct reports and update weekly schedules based on project feedback.
  • Review and understand project specifications to support job setup activities.
  • Work with crews, field engineers, and local utility companies to identify hazardous areas on the job site.
  • Coordinate with internal equipment teams and external vendors to ensure appropriate equipment and material quantities are available to complete production within budget and schedule.
  • Forecast work schedules to identify potential issues and provide technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate production challenges.
  • Provide technical input to identify and resolve project risks, including construction methods, work plans, material requirements, safety, and scheduling.
  • Document daily activities and meeting notes using company-approved methods.
  • Support and promote strict adherence to safety and process controls regarding equipment operation, worksite safety, and documentation requirements.
  • Recommend training needs identified on the jobsite.
  • Supervise sub-contractor production and workforce regarding assigned project work.
  • Recommend work schedule or method adjustments for sub-contractor activities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of heavy civil construction experience required.
  • 5+ years of construction management experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree a plus.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site equipment operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction site safety protocols and proven ability to enforce project safety programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local union or prevailing wage rules, if applicable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards and contract-specific plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Pay

Salary range: USD $115,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year.
