Foundation Phase Academy Coach

Reporting to the Academy Technical Director within the Sporting department, this role is based at St. Johns University (Queens) and City Football Academy (Orangeburg, New York).

About the role

As an Academy Coach in the Foundation Phase, you will have overall responsibility for the continued development of a specific age group. You will deliver the NYCFC coaching philosophy, manage Individual Development Plans for players, and lead an interdisciplinary team to achieve individual and team goals. Collaboration across departments and age groups is essential. The role focuses on developing both the team and individual players within a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Create a learning environment that balances challenges and support for each individual player.
• Maximize the potential of every player through the delivery of the NYCFC game model and methodology.
• Deliver daily training sessions and match preparation with your staff.
• Work cooperatively with other Academy teams and staff, maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Plan, deliver, and review coaching practices according to the NYCFC methodology, with an action-oriented attitude and commitment to continual improvement.
• Work from a periodization model and design practices to enhance learning and understanding of NYCFC's game model.
• Collaborate with other Academy coaches to provide one-to-one player development support through progressive Individual Development Plans, offering ongoing, specific, and actionable feedback.
• Understand and adhere to all Competition Guidelines in entered competitions.
• Represent NYCFC positively while carrying out all required responsibilities.
• Support the continued development and matriculation of Academy players through the system.
• Engage with and ensure timely input into all Academy platforms and software (Smartabase, Taka, etc.).

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience coaching at the youth academy level.
• USSF ‘B’ or ‘A’ license (minimum, required).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary soccer environment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
• Knowledge of tactical periodization and its implementation.
• Growth mindset, enthusiasm, and curiosity.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to comply with MLS Next Safety and Well-Being policy and any other applicable child safety policies provided by NYCFC.
• Availability to work games scheduled on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

This exempt position has an estimated annual base salary range of $62,500–$65,000. Final compensation is based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, relevant experience, certifications, and software expertise.
