About the role
Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from underserved communities for college and beyond. TECH Freire Charter School, one of Freire Schools' high schools, focuses on rigorous college-prep education with a blend of technology and entrepreneurship.
Responsibilities
- Teach classes averaging from 8-12 students.
- Deliver direct-instruction reading intervention grounded in the science of reading.
- Utilize Corrective Reading Curriculum.
- Closely monitor student progress and reteach particular skills as necessary.
- Cultivate the belief that literacy is a tool for liberation and empower students to become stronger readers.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Valid certification in any of the following areas: Special Education, English Language Arts, Reading Specialist, Elementary or Middle Grades General Certification.
- Ability to form strong relationships with students and motivate them to push past struggle.
- A belief that literacy is an equity issue and an understanding of the role in closing foundational reading skill gaps.
- A desire to help all students become grade-level readers.
Pay and benefits
The annual salary range for this role is $50,000 - $85,000. Freire Schools offers a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and more. Pennsylvania employees are also enrolled in Freire’s 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% contribution from Freire.
