About the role
The Foundation Equipment Operator is responsible for operating specialized equipment to support foundation construction for utility power infrastructure, including transmission towers, poles, and substations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and precise operation of machinery while adhering to engineering specifications, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate drilling rigs, augers, pile drivers, excavators, and other foundation-related equipment.
- Perform excavation, drilling, and soil stabilization for deep foundations and anchor systems.
- Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, including pre-operation checks and safe operating procedures.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and report hazards or incidents immediately.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of equipment (lubrication, fueling, cleaning).
- Report mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with Foreman and crew to ensure proper sequencing of tasks and efficient workflow.
- Assist with site preparation and material handling as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage, hours, and maintenance activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience operating heavy or specialized foundation equipment in construction or utility projects.
- Valid driver’s license and applicable equipment operator certifications.
- Knowledge of soil conditions, drilling techniques, and foundation requirements.
- Ability to read and follow site plans and instructions.
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Able to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Physical Demands

- The team-member is frequently required to perform rigorous physical labor; sit; climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.); or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
