Foundation Controller

About the role

The Foundation Controller is responsible for all accounting and financial activities of the ECU Medical & Health Sciences Foundation, Inc. (d/b/a “ECU Health Foundation”) and provides direct financial services support to the President of the Foundation and Chief Philanthropy Officer for ECU Health. This position ensures fiduciary responsibility to donors, members, Boards of Directors, and the University, while adhering to Federal, State, Foundation, and University requirements, policies, and standard practices. The role reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for ECU Health Financial Management & Reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and review reconciliations of pledge receivables, investments, charitable remainder trusts, Banner accounts, and contribution/revenue activity.
• Prepare interim financial statements, ad hoc financial reports, and analyses for the Health Sciences Foundation.
• Analyze and prepare annual operating budgets and monthly operational budget reports, with emphasis on potential unrelated business income reporting.
• Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audit requirements and ensure compliance with audit standards.
• Oversee and review sales tax reporting for the Health Sciences Foundation.
• Coordinate with external accountants for preparation of the Foundation’s Form 990, Form 990-T, and related schedules.
• Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies for the Foundation.
• Train and supervise team members in financial and accounting procedures.
• Manage special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

Key responsibility areas: Accounting (25%), Analysis and Reporting (25%), Budget Management (10%), Audit Preparation (10%), Tax Preparation and Analysis (10%), Supervision (5%), Training (5%), Administrative (5%), Special Projects/Other (5%).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate degree in accounting; or Associate degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
• Working knowledge of accounting guidelines, principles, and practices applicable to not-for-profit organizations and universities, including FASB, IRS, GAAP, GASB, AICPA, CASE, and State of North Carolina regulations.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituents.
• Strong oral and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Pay

$62,115 - $90,000 per year. Salary offered may vary based on budget, UNC salary administration, and candidate qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, 1.00 FTE.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Most positions at East Carolina University require employees to reside in North Carolina or within a reasonable daily commuting distance from their duty station after hire.
