Forward Deployed Operator

About the role

The constellation team at WindBorne Systems is seeking an experienced operator to manage and optimize the performance of our global weather balloon constellation. This role involves a mix of technical expertise, project coordination, and customer interaction.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and the Flight Control team to ensure successful execution of military exercises and hardware rollouts.
• Identify and address recurring issues affecting the entire constellation, including those related to customer demonstrations and unexpected events such as tropical storms.
• Travel internationally to support unusual operations, such as recovering balloons in swamps or setting up temporary launch sites.
• Develop and maintain procedures for handling new and emerging challenges, ensuring that tasks are assigned and completed regardless of existing protocols.
• Work closely with customers to understand and communicate the value of our services, fostering trust and collaboration.

Requirements

• Genuine curiosity about atmospheric science, radio technology, and defense systems.
• Comfort working in uncertain environments and adapting to changing priorities.

Qualifications

• Experience with weather balloons, atmospheric science, and related technologies.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in remote and challenging field locations.

Pay

$90K–$120K, adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
