About the role

Why Harvey: At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate by combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise‑grade platform, and deep domain expertise to reshape critical knowledge work. We have strong product‑market fit, world‑class investor support, and are scaling fast to define a new category. Our team operates with intensity, stays close to customers, and pushes each other for excellence, guided by the values Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished.

Role Overview: Harvey's Finance Engineering team is the investment‑side counterpart to our Legal Engineering team, comprised of former investment professionals who bring real deal experience to prospects and customers. Forward Deployed Finance Engineers lead discovery, demos, pilots, trainings, onboarding, and custom builds alongside AEs and CSMs, translating real investment work into Harvey solutions and serving as the trust layer across the customer lifecycle. They work on Harvey Deals, a product built from Harvey's acquisition of Benchmark, where investment teams run deals — screening, underwriting, diligence, and committee materials — in the firm's own templates with every figure traceable to source documents. Harvey works with 150+ asset management firms and analyzes 178M+ documents each month; the Finance Engineering team connects that capability to how deal teams actually work. Finance Engineers understand how investors think and work, using that expertise to design, build, and refine solutions that hold up under live deal pressure, driving adoption and shaping Harvey's product roadmap. This role is the first Finance Engineer dedicated to private credit: you will build the credit playbook (demo library, workflow templates, use cases), run live pilots, and lead the credit practice as the team grows, with travel expected 2–3+ times per month (1–3 days per trip for significant business needs).

Responsibilities

  • Engage with direct lenders, opportunistic and specialty finance managers, BDC managers, and insurer credit arms throughout the pre‑sales process and beyond.
  • Lead pilots on live opportunities, guiding lenders through what’s possible with AI.
  • Build screening, underwriting, and credit committee workflows in the firm’s own templates and formats.
  • Perform lender presentation and CIM review; QoE read‑throughs and data pack analysis; cash flow and leverage modeling; sizing and structuring; covenant and credit agreement review; credit memo drafting; and comps.
  • Support post‑close activities: compliance certificate review, covenant tracking, amendment and waiver analysis, and quarterly portfolio reporting.
  • Translate credit‑team feedback into product improvements to shape Harvey’s future.
  • Travel approximately 2–3+ times per month (typically 1–3 days per trip) for significant business needs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years on an investment or underwriting team at a direct lender, private credit fund, BDC manager, or insurer private credit arm, with demonstrated ownership of live deal work: screening, underwriting, diligence workstreams, modeling, structuring, and drafting credit committee materials.
  • Asset‑based and specialty finance backgrounds are welcome.
  • Leveraged finance, restructuring advisory, or rating‑agency experience before the principal side is welcome, but principal‑side deal execution is required.
  • Strong command of the documents and data that drive credit decisions — lender presentation and CIM, QoE and data pack, model, credit agreement and intercreditor, compliance certificates — and an instinct for where the numbers and the paper disagree.

Skills

  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling.
  • Comfort with prompting and agentic AI workflows.
  • Builder’s instinct for turning repeated manual processes into repeatable automation.
  • Python, SQL, or experience building internal tools (plus).
  • Executive presence and relationship‑building skills; ability to establish credibility from analysts/associates through partners and credit committee members.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills — comfortable leading live demos, facilitating workshops, or engaging in technical conversations about covenant packages or underwriting assumptions.
  • Deep curiosity about AI’s potential to transform investment work, paired with a practical, solutions‑oriented mindset and bias toward action.
  • Track record partnering with senior stakeholders to drive results, with curiosity for testing approaches and optimizing for customer outcomes.
  • Customer‑facing or commercial experience (LP/investor relations, capital formation, banking coverage, business development) and/or hands‑on experience using AI tools in an investment setting (plus).
