Forward deployed engineer

About the role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Shaped, you'll bridge engineering and our customers, helping them ship on Shaped, whether that's an agent, a recommender, a search experience, or something we haven't seen yet. This requires someone who can program and also sell - a killer combo!

Responsibilities

• Several years of engineering experience (Ex. could ship an end-to-end backend or ML service)
• Comfortable with Python and SQL
• Have experience talking to customers, whether you were a solutions engineer or a barista
• Excited to wear many hats (sales, modeling, backend, frontend, etc.)
• Care about retrieval and recognize how broken context still is for agents today
• Help customers go from first POC to production in weeks, not quarters
• Run experiments to find the models, embeddings, and configurations that work for each customer
• Build trust with customer engineering and product leaders so they keep shipping with us
• Run technical demos that close deals
• Bring customer pain back into the product roadmap

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience

Qualifications

• Real-world experience programming and selling
• Comfortable with Python and SQL
• Experience working with customers, either as a solutions engineer or in another customer-facing role
• Able to handle multiple roles within the team, including but not limited to sales, modeling, backend, frontend, etc.
• An understanding of the challenges in retrieval and the importance of context in modern AI applications
• The ability to quickly bring customer pain points back into the product development cycle
• Ability to run experiments and find optimal configurations for different customer needs
• Strong communication skills to build trust with customer engineering and product leaders
• Effective presentation and demo skills to close deals
