The Opportunity

August is building the world's largest AI-native legal services company — and rewriting how law firms scale. Our agents mimic a lawyer’s reasoning, research, and drafting, and our workflows already outperform lawyers in third-party evaluations. We’re targeting mid-market law firms, automating their legal work and allowing them to provide our tools directly to their clients.

Join August at an early stage as we scale our agents to process thousands of documents simultaneously and create outputs exceeding human-level accuracy.

About You

• 3+ years of production software engineering experience (full-stack or platform); you're a strong generalist who can navigate an unfamiliar codebase quickly, debug hairy integration issues, and ship reliable code under real constraints.
• Strong command of TypeScript/JavaScript (React/Next.js) and at least one backend language (Python preferred); comfortable writing API clients, data transformation scripts, and lightweight services from scratch.
• Engineering instincts that favor shipping: you default to the smallest working solution, add observability from day one, and treat each deployment as a learning loop — not a one-time project.
• Thrives in high-ownership, fast-moving environments: you're energized by ambiguity, can context-switch between deep technical problems and high-level architecture discussions, and take pride in building things that actually work in the wild.
