Pay
- Certified Teacher: $35.00/hour
- Degree/Not certified: $25.00/hour
- No Degree/90 college hours: $22.00/hour
- No Degree/60 college hours: $19.00/hour
- No Degree/30 college hours: $16.00/hour
- No Degree/less than 30 college hours: $13.00/hour
Responsibilities
Specialist (Activity Leader) – FWAS Program
Responsible for the delivery of program activities in the FWAS program. Assists in developing and implementing activities; provides constant visual supervision of students.
- Greets parents and children with salutations and smiles.
- Provides a safe and healthy environment for participants.
- Plans and implements daily lessons and activities for assigned group.
- Designs developmentally appropriate activities that engage, motivate, and expose students to intentional learning experiences.
- Creates opportunities for students’ work to be showcased throughout the school year.
- Serves meals to program participants.
- Uses approved discipline techniques when dealing with inappropriate behavior.
- Ensures students are signed in and out by authorized parent or nominated person.
- Notifies Site Supervisor as early as possible of the need to be absent.
- Attends and participates in regular staff meetings and all training provided by FWAS and Community-Based Organization (CBO) provider.
FWAS Program Compliance
- Confirms that activities are ongoing and consistent throughout all terms within a year (Fall & Spring).
- Oversees events throughout the year and sustains daily activity programming.
- Works toward achieving student participation goals and maintains staff-to-student ratio as specified by FWAS.
Programming
- Ensures activities are selected based on the identified needs of targeted students.
- Safeguards that activities are innovative, interactive, and responsive to student needs.
- Implements educational and literacy-related activities based on need and in collaboration with the school.
Safety
- Follows established safety procedures, including constant visual supervision of students.
Activity Leader Responsibilities
- Reviews and maintains understanding of program deliverables.
- Examines student data and provides input for programs that may assist with student success.
- Coordinates tasks and activities with other Activity Leaders where applicable.
- Oversees and monitors student participants to ensure compliance with FWAS Program guidelines.
Personal Work Relationships
- Maintains a commitment to the District’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Exhibits high professionalism, standards of conduct, and work ethic.
- Demonstrates high-quality customer service and builds rapport with consumers.

Other Duties as Assigned
- Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies, and regulations.
- Complies with lawful directives in rare situations requiring a team effort.

Qualifications
Specialist (Activity Leader) – FWAS Program
- Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required. Any degree from an accredited college or university, or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university preferred.
- Certification/License: None.
- Experience: Child care experience preferred; youth-development program experience preferred.
- Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
- Additional Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.
Specialist Assistant – FWAS Program
- Education: Enrolled in Accredited High School at grade 11 or higher; Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency preferred.
- Certification/License: None.
- Experience: Child care experience preferred; youth-development program experience preferred.
- Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
- Additional Requirement: Must be 16 years of age or older (general funded only).
Skills
- Knowledge of FWAS policies and procedures (e.g., not eating anything not available to students, not consuming dinner provided to students, leading and monitoring students at all times).
- Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
- Skill in leading/assisting with student activities and managing their behavior.
- Skill in interpersonal relationships, including tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Ability to provide information and assist office personnel, parents, and students related to District programs and activities.
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
- Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or crisis situations, including administering First Aid if applicable.
- Ability to exercise discretion regarding sensitive or confidential matters.
- Ability to use software to access databases, status work, and email.

Physical & Mental Demands
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: Works in an office setting and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); frequent exposure to noise; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required.
- Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
- Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse working conditions, including violent confrontations. Ability to defuse sudden violent or extreme physical acts and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Travel Requirements
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
