Contract position based in St. Louis, MO, primarily laboratory-based with adherence to safety protocols and laboratory equipment use.
About the role
This Chemist II role focuses on product development and testing within the Home & Garden R&D Department, specializing in outdoor control products such as insecticides and pesticides. The position provides technical expertise and support to manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams.
Responsibilities
- Formulate and develop EPA-registered pesticides to meet business objectives for outdoor control products in the consumer market.
- Conduct studies in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Ensure technical information meets high scientific standards, providing quality technical results and data interpretation to support product positioning and business recommendations.
- Reformulate existing products to adapt to market changes.
- Perform and monitor storage stability studies.
- Collaborate with Marketing and the New Product Development team to develop innovative products.
- Log and compile stability data into cohesive reports.
- Assist in the maintenance and entries of R&D databases.
- Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook for all projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science field, or a Master’s degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in product development or formulation, preferably with pesticide products in consumer or turf and ornamentals markets.
- 4+ years of formulation chemistry experience, preferably in herbicide and pesticide formulation.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations, equipment, and safety requirements.
- Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices requirements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to overcome obstacles.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Flexibility in shifting among projects.
Skills
- Proficiency in PC skills including spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to research and write scientific substantiation documents.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Effective communication skills with all organizational levels.
- Ability to meet established project timelines and efficiently use project resources.
Pay
$30.00 - $32.00 per hour.
