Formulary Specialist
Job Summary
The Formulary Characterization Specialist provides internal and external clients and sales personnel with pharmaceutical waste characterization and other data analyses related to the client's pharmaceutical inventory. This role involves evaluating Safety Data Sheets (SDS), reviewing federal and state regulations, using industry resources, and analyzing prescription package inserts to determine chemical characteristics pertinent to hazardous waste regulations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Communicate with internal and external customers to gather necessary data for inventory analysis
- Maintain and oversee data integrity within WM’s proprietary characterization database
- Research and evaluate chemical characteristics of various pharmaceuticals and products to identify compatibilities, incompatibilities, and specific handling requirements
- Monitor and assess changes in federal and state regulations impacting pharmaceutical waste disposal practices and other waste streams as needed
- Review data not found in the database and evaluate comparative information
- Utilize Microsoft Excel extensively for data analysis
- Complete tasks using Salesforce in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Monitor expiration dates and proactively inform requestors
- Participate in process improvements and metric calculations
- Partner with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, including meetings with customers to address technical data questions
- Prioritize multiple activities and projects while meeting internal deadlines
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a similar technically inclined field such as Pharmacy Technician
- Two or more years of previous experience in a pharmaceutical or hazardous waste position
- Must live and work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of extensive experience utilizing advanced Excel features (HLookUp, VLookUp, Pivot table, INDEX, MATCH) to evaluate large amounts of data
- Field experience sorting or lab packing hazardous waste
Physical Requirements

Pay
The expected base pay range for this position across the U.S. is $53,000 - $65,000. Specific salary offers may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
