About the role

The Form Carpenter constructs, forms, and installs wood, metal, and other materials to meet layout and construction plans for parking lots, sidewalks, curbs, walls, frames, foundations, structures, and other construction-related fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality at a productive rate on each project.
  • Perform form carpentry efficiently to meet production and schedule goals.
  • Read and analyze construction drawings, sketches, diagrams, and layouts to determine proper dimensions, shapes, and designs for formwork and framing.
  • Use precise measurements to cut and assemble formwork, stakes, boards, plywood, keyway, paving baskets, expansion materials, and other building materials for concrete paving.
  • Secure formwork and related materials using screws, nails, bolts, rods, anchors, and other fastening devices.
  • Operate hand saws, electric saws, gas-powered saws, hand tools, generators, pumps, and other small tools and equipment.
  • Use levels, rules, tape measures, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure structures are level, aligned, and plumb.
  • Cut, tie, and assemble steel, rebar, and reinforcing materials within concrete work items.
  • Verify and perform grading of base and sub-base materials to achieve required pavement widths and thicknesses.
  • Maintain equipment and tools for long-lasting use; clean tools and remove trash, debris, and other materials from work areas daily.
  • Inspect tools and equipment daily and complete inspection reports.
  • Perform jobsite cleanup and organization, maintaining a secure and safe jobsite.

  • Actively engage on your project and mentor others to ensure a safe jobsite.
  • Participate in all safety meetings and proactively identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and organization to support a safe work environment.
  • Familiarize yourself with Durr’s Safety Manual and report all safety incidents and near misses immediately.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience as a Form Carpenter in the construction industry, specializing in concrete work (no exceptions).
  • Basic experience with power equipment (e.g., powder-actuated tools, saws, drills, chippers, grinders).
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to schedule.
  • Capability to lift heavy objects, walk, stand for long periods, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of heavy construction, particularly concrete paving and related blueprints.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of proper use of construction equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Understanding of safety precautions and ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; very active position involving standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme conditions at construction sites.
  • Works in outside weather conditions with loud noise levels.
