About the role
The Yard Forklift Operator is responsible for the internal transport of raw and finished pipe products within the warehouse and outside yard. This role involves mentoring and training new hires and performing job duties with little to no supervision.
Responsibilities
- Transporting raw and finished materials to different locations within the facility
- Optimizing loads to ensure operational efficiency
- Securing loads to machine before transportation
- Accurately and neatly assembling bundles for storage or shipment
- Accurately labeling bundles
- Picking and staging orders for shipment
- Adhering to safety management standards and production schedules
- Abiding by all Standard Operating Procedures and processes
- Maintaining safe operations by adhering to all safety procedures and regulations
- Maintaining equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Maintaining continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
- Overseeing the training of new operators using role-specific checklists and providing feedback to management
- Participating in meetings for training, safety, and recertifications
- Delivering quality hands-on instruction and maintaining a safe work environment for new hires
- Maintaining open and honest communication, addressing questions and concerns, and fostering mutual respect
- Promoting compliance with SOPs, Safety Guidelines, Quality Assurance, and company policies and procedures
- All other duties as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years' experience in a similar role
Skills
- Ability to effectively operate and maintain forklift equipment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to comprehend direction in both written and verbal form
- Ability to measure material thickness and part dimensions accurately
- Ability to read and understand prints and measuring devices
- Basic math skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize, schedule, and review work
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Ability to meet schedules and timelines
- Ability to maintain routine records
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds
- Involves exposure to moving machinery, temperature and humidity changes, and dust, fumes, and gases
