Forklift Operator - Part Time 1st Shift

About the role

The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of freight, including loading, unloading, staging, scanning, and movement within a warehouse or terminal environment.

Responsibilities

• Move, stage, sort, and position freight adhering to safety and operational procedures.
• Assist with loading/unloading, pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Label, scan, and track cargo to ensure documentation accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized dock, adhering to safety policies and OSHA standards.
• Support workflow efficiency, prioritize freight, and sometimes lead task assignments.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers, serve as subject-matter expert.
• Operate material handling equipment safely and accurately, including forklifts and related devices.
• Perform tasks under supervision while developing operational skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid forklift certification/license required or ability to obtain.
• Minimum of 3 years dock or warehouse experience.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to recognize labels, barcodes, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn and operate computer systems, scanners, and freight-tracking devices.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50lbs regularly, and work in a noisy, outdoor, or extreme environment.
