Responsibilities
- Transfer products using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack in compliance with safety procedures, company, and USDA requirements.
- Operate an electronic or hand-operated pallet jack between departments, buildings, and grounds.
- Collect and deliver a wide variety of materials while adhering to established safety procedures.
- Deliver materials to work areas as directed by the production supervisor; stack materials in storage areas and load/unload shipments in trailers.
- Ensure product or equipment being moved is undamaged and handled safely.
- Perform routine servicing of equipment, such as changing and charging batteries, and checking tires.
- Identify mechanical problems or damage with pallet jacks and report them to the supervisor for inspection and repair.
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
- Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition, following prescribed safety regulations.
- Perform visual safety inspections of machines before operation.
- Load and unload trucks, stacking and consolidating partial pallets.
- Assist with inventory, correctly recording numbers and codes.
- Keep the dock area clear and organized to ensure efficient workflow.
- Complete and deliver daily and weekly reports to the floor supervisor.
- Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Attend team meetings and foster strong cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, and policy changes.
- Identify areas lacking cohesiveness and bring them to the team leader’s attention, working to resolve issues.
- Support Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, company policies) and understand the role in maintaining these systems.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift and pallet jack licenses.
- Preference for experience in poultry or food processing industries.
- Preferred education: High School Diploma or GED.
Physical Activities
- Must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds of supplies from floor to shoulder level.
