Forklift Operator

About the Role

The Forklift Operator ensures the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of freight through loading, unloading, staging, scanning, and movement within a transportation or warehouse environment. This role contributes to productivity, workflow coordination, and freight integrity while often mentoring new team members and resolving operational issues.

Responsibilities

• Move, stage, sort, and position freight according to procedures.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping/delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety protocols.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues.
• Maintain a safe, organized dock environment and adhere to safety standards.
• Support operational goals, prioritize freight, and sometimes lead tasks.
• Train and mentor Material Handlers and support workflow management.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred; valid forklift certification required.
• Minimum of 3 years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Ability to recognize labels, barcodes, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn computer systems and freight-tracking devices.
• Ability to operate MHE such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors (training provided).
• Physical stamina for extensive standing, lifting up to 50-75 lbs, and working in varying environmental conditions.
• Safety awareness and ability to work around moving equipment and vehicles.
