Forklift Operator

About the role

The Forklift Operator ensures the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of freight through loading, unloading, staging, scanning, and movement within a transportation or warehouse environment. They support productivity by managing cargo, assisting drivers, and maintaining safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Move, stage, sort, and position freight according to procedures.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist with loading and unloading trucks following safety protocols.
• Label, scan, and track freight using handheld devices and systems.
• Identify and report damaged freight or safety issues.
• Maintain a clean, organized dock environment and adhere to safety standards.
• Support workflow, prioritize freight, and sometimes act in a lead capacity.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
• Support operational goals and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred; not required.
• Valid forklift certification/license or ability to obtain.
• Minimum 3 years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to recognize labels, barcodes, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn computer systems and freight-tracking devices.
• Ability to operate MHE safely, including forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift freight up to 50-75 lbs, and work in varying environmental conditions.
