Forklift Operator

About the role

The Forklift Operator ensures the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of freight through loading, unloading, staging, scanning, and movement within transportation or warehouse environments. They contribute to productivity, workflow, and freight integrity.

Responsibilities

• Loading and unloading freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, and other Material Handling Equipment (MHE), following safety protocols.
• Moving, staging, sorting, and freight transfer between dock doors, trailers, and warehouse areas per procedures.
• Picking, packing, and preparing items for shipment, and assisting drivers with dock activities.
• Labeling, scanning, and tracking freight to ensure accuracy and documentation integrity.
• Identifying damaged freight and reporting issues promptly.
• Maintaining a clean, organized dock environment and supporting dock productivity.
• Supporting safety policies, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements.
• Assisting with dock coordination, workflow management, and problem solving.
• Prioritizing freight, sometimes acting in a lead capacity without supervisory authority.
• Supporting team development through mentoring and training.

Qualifications and Skills

• Certified forklift operating skills.
• Ability to operate MHE safely and efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Ability to identify freight issues and safety concerns.
• Good organizational and coordination skills.
• Supportive attitude towards safety and team collaboration.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Additional Duties

Support dock operations, support safety and cleanliness, and perform tasks under supervision as skills develop. Support overall operational goals and ensure compliance with safety standards.
