Summary

Our Forklift Operator is responsible for moving finished product, materials, and equipment safely and securely in and out of the steel yard.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ability to operate and move forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Safely operate forklifts to load, transport, and unload materials.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
  • Secure materials on forklift safely to ensure proper transportation of materials.
  • Navigate warehouse and yard areas with attention to surroundings.
  • Communicate clearly with spotters and supervisors to coordinate safe material handling.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in warehouses/manufacturing/fabrication shops preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage job duty and workflow.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Organization skills.
  • Positive attitude and desire to work as a team player.
  • Ability for cross training in other areas of the plant.
  • Follow safety procedures including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs regularly and up to 75lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to handle materials, tools, and welding equipment and machines.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, or work in awkward positions to complete work.
  • Visual acuity to read measurements, inspect welds, and maintain quality standards.
  • Exposure to welding fumes, bright light (arc flash), heat, sparks, and airborne particles.
  • Everyday use of PPE including flame-resistant clothing, welding helmet, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety-toe boots.
  • Climate conditions vary in production areas from hot in the summer to cold in the winter.
