Forklift Operator

About the role
Responsible for efficient transport of finished goods for outbound shipments and proper receiving procedures for incoming shipments and deliveries.
Responsibilities
- Complies with all company and department safety, quality, productivity, and security procedures.
- Ensures total quality of the job while in operation and performs quality checks at set intervals.
- Responsible for reviewing and preparing all shipments according to the shipment calendar.
- Works with incoming and outbound trucking companies on scheduled pick-ups and deliveries, responsible for the loading and unloading of shipments as per the bills of lading.
- Ensures proper storage and warehousing of materials according to warehouse layout.
- Delivery of incoming materials to required departments.
- Review of documentation for accuracy prior to all shipments leaving the building.
- Assists Warehouse Lead with any required procedures.
- Examines own work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
- Ensures correct shipments of orders.
- Operates forklift truck safely, inspects forklift trucks according to policy standard for safe operation and reporting of damaged equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe warehousing environment.
- Communicates company safety and procedures to all visitors received in the warehouse including truck drivers and contractors.
- Follows all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF).
- Reports any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation.
- Participates in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Ability to visually inspect trucks and products that are delivered to the plant.
- Ability to operate forklift which includes visual depth perception while placing loads of material on racking system within the facility.
- Possess basic computer skills.
- Ability to hear in a high traffic warehouse environment and cautions of safety hazards.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Highly motivated, self-starter with strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as problem solving ability.
- Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to regularly stand and use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to use basic measurement tools.
- Schedules are 12-hours.
- Must be flexible; able to work other shifts, overtime covering vacations, call outs.
- May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse environment supporting a manufacturing plant.
- Certification on various forklift trucks such as sit-down and clamp trucks.
