About the Role

Efficiently transport materials using a forklift, support packaging operations, load and unload trucks, and organize staging areas for slitters.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily Forklift Safety Inspection Reports.
  • Provide support to packaging lines.
  • Efficiently load and unload trucks.
  • Handle unloading of lumber and skids.
  • Receive and store supplies.
  • Remove scrap from the floor to maintain cleanliness.
  • Organize skidded material storage.
  • Utilize scanning technology for accurate placement of materials.
  • Adhere to assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols outlined in the Plant Employee handbook.
  • Meet attendance standards as per the Attendance Policy.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Must meet physical requirements of the job, including lifting 50 pounds and standing/walking on a concrete floor for the entire shift.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
  • Licensed for hi-lo (forklift) operation.
  • May be required to use calipers, tape measure, micrometer, hand tools, plasma cutter, and operate an overhead crane.
  • Must wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Standing/walking: 20% of the time.
  • Sitting: 80% of the time.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Reading charts, tags, and written procedures.
  • May be required to climb a ladder to reach riding cage on some cranes.
  • Measuring material as required.
  • Printing or writing legibly to complete all required paperwork.

Working Conditions

  • Work site is in the plant, which is on one level and accessible directly from the parking lot.
  • Stairs in the rail pit and up to the slitter platforms.
  • Short ladders on the banding lines to climb from the floor to the conveyor.
  • Seasonal temperature variations from 60 to 95+ degrees.
  • Exposure to diesel fumes as trucks move through the plant.
  • Noise level varies depending on the number of machines in operation.
  • Potential hazards include strains, cuts, and crush injuries.

Supervision and Attendance

Supervision and/or co-worker assistance are readily available. Attendance is closely monitored, as unscheduled absences may jeopardize meeting customer requirements due to insufficient staffing.

Consequences of Non-Performance

  • Failure to follow established safety rules and procedures may result in loss of position or termination of employment.
  • Failure to meet the requirements of the Attendance Policy will result in termination of employment.
  • Failure to observe safety procedures in material handling may result in serious injury up to fatality and/or damage and loss of material or property.
  • Failure to move material promptly may result in production delays or customer delivery delays, potentially leading to loss of business.
  • Failure to complete appropriate paperwork may result in inventory shortages through loss of material or improper billing of the customer.
  • Improper storage of material may result in damage/loss of material.
