About the Role
This position is responsible for processing various materials in a shredding facility, including the use of powered industrial equipment such as forklifts, excavators, skid steers, switcher trucks, and wheel loaders. Health & Safety is the number one goal, requiring adherence to policies, processes, and safe work practices.
Responsibilities
- Unload and load wastes in conformance with company rules and regulations.
- Offload and check-in inbound waste streams.
- Load, unload, and sample solid waste safely in accordance with Company, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Check for inconsistencies between manifested types/quantities and actual containers received.
- Operate heavy machinery in confined areas and a fork truck with attachments.
- Perform daily pre-operational maintenance (PM) and inspections on equipment.
- Conduct basic operator maintenance and spill cleanup.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, including walls, pit drains, and floors.
- Use PPE (boots, gloves, eye/ear protection, reflective clothing) as required.
- Shovel, sweep, and clean assigned areas periodically throughout the day.
- Identify and report safety hazards.
- Complete required monthly safety training courses.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of shipping, receiving, and warehouse experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to operate a forklift and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to work well with others and manage time effectively.
- Lift 51 lbs. unassisted.
- Basic math, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- Ability to work in a dusty environment with repetitive motions in any weather.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Dependable and able to pass a pulmonary function test and respirator fit test.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts.
