Forklift Operator - 1st Shift

About the role

Reports to the Warehouse Supervisor and is responsible for moving product or materials in a production or warehouse environment using powered tools and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Operate industrial vehicles and equipment.
• Load and unload product from trucks.
• Transport materials to and from storage areas throughout the warehouse.
• Floor stack unitized materials in the warehouse.
• Place unitized materials into storage racks.
• Deliver requisitioned materials to assembly areas.
• Record all transactions by scanning product with a barcode reader.
• Transport trash from various locations throughout the plant and deliver it to the proper location.
• Assist in breaking down and restacking pallets on receipt, when necessary.
• Perform daily pre-start check of forklift and complete checklist form.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
• Move product and/or materials manually as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year of related experience.
• Certified in the operation of a forklift or able to pass a written certification test and demonstrate skillful use of a forklift.
• Ability to operate a manual/powered pallet jack or lift product.
• Meet required job-specific training located in the Training Register.

Skills

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write simple reports and correspondence.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors, with good listening and comprehension.
• Perform basic mathematical operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
• Apply and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Operate a lift truck safely on the floor and in racking systems.
• Operate a barcode reader and record transactions in writing as necessary.
• Read and interpret material request forms and issue appropriate product to assembly lines.
• Make decisions on proper storage of product in the warehouse and follow a first-in-first-out system.

• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and potential exposure to sulfuric acid (electric battery) or carbon monoxide from propane-fueled forklifts.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
