About the role

Join our team of skilled Mechanic in Powered Industrial Trucks Repair and Preventive Maintenance at Smithfield. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about maintaining and repairing our fleet of forklifts and material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain company-owned/leased Material Handling Equipment (MHE) by performing preventive maintenance and diagnosing/repairing issues.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, steering, hydraulic, braking, and other systems on various types of forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Perform repairs to MHE by removing, replacing, assembling, and installing parts and components.
  • Conduct inspections, keep logs of repairs, and enter maintenance history in CMMS.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance team and train others.
  • Attend training to stay current with latest equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is in safe working order by following an active safety awareness program.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist in resolving issues.
  • Identify and remove unsafe equipment from the facility operating area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and 1+ years of relevant experience, or 4 years’ direct experience in a mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
  • Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma, or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school (preferred).
  • Manufacturing, automotive, military, or recent trade school graduates with applied skills are preferred.
  • A solid foundation of mechanical aptitude and ability along with knowledge of industrial electricity up to 480 volts.
  • Forklift maintenance experience preferred.
  • Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Competent in the use of common hand tools.
  • Able to use a multimeter to diagnose problems.
  • Able to operate hoisting and jacking equipment.
  • Willing to work occasional weekends as needed.
