Forge Operator I

About the role

This Forge Operator I position is based in Corry, PA but may occasionally require travel to the Irvine or Warren plants. The role involves working as a crew helper on presses within the Forge, assisting in the forging and forming of various materials and shapes.

Schedule

The successful candidate will be required to work rotating shifts, including 24/7 operations. Some areas may have seven-day continuous schedules, and overtime (over 40 hours/week) will be mandatory at times.

Responsibilities

• Work as a crew member performing duties related to the forge operation under the direction of the Supervisor/Forge Operator II.
• Operate the manipulator and other required equipment.
• Charge steel into furnaces prior to forging, when required.
• Operate furnace doors, light furnaces, use and read furnace instrumentation, and assist in forging operations as a floor worker.
• Place punches on forgings, paddle forgings, operate cutting and scarfing torches, and clean scale from forgings as material is being forged.
• Stamp identification markings on forgings by hand or using a power-activated tool.
• Stack brick in furnace openings and change jaws and dies.
• Perform preventative maintenance duties to ensure the proper function and operation of the forge area.
• Complete clerical duties as required.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working area.
• Observe all safety rules and regulations.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Regular attendance as scheduled is an essential function of this role.

Tools and Equipment

• Hand tools, power hand tools, and pneumatic tools.
• Motorized equipment (generators, pressure washers, forklifts, etc.).
• Heavy equipment (loaders, lifts, etc.).
• Forging hammer, press, straightening press, manipulator, forklift, crane, sledgehammer, punches, shovels, brooms, punching rings, paddles, grinders, cutting and scarfing torch, pile driver, shims, dies, die key, furnaces, spacer bars, measuring devices, hand and power-activated stamping machines, and material handling equipment.
• Various ferrous and non-ferrous metals, oxygen, cutting gas, compressed air, fire brick, oil dry, water, and other supplies such as die lubricant, hot chalk, paint, lubricants, mica, and heat retardant covers.
