About the Role

The Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet (EEC) aims to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians by protecting land, air, and water resources while utilizing natural resources in an environmentally conscientious manner. As a Forester I in the Division of Forestry's Pineville Branch Section I (Knox County), you will contribute to the integrity of forestry-related programs and deliver consistent services to the public. You will interact regularly with the public, branch personnel, management, and division program staff.

The agency may authorize telecommuting for the selected candidate, with the possibility of termination or modification of this arrangement at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing Forest Management Plans for landowners.
  • Conducting Timber Stand Improvements.
  • Providing technical assistance for cost-share programs.
  • Performing forestry education and public outreach.
  • Participating in wildland fire management and related activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in forestry.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain any required licensure, certification, or credentials for the length of employment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management.
  • Ability to plan and direct forest management activities.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Proficient knowledge and use of information technology.

Working Conditions

  • Work is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands, often under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or wildland fire suppression.
  • May involve assisting in all-risk emergency response when mobilized.
  • Frequent contact with citizens and organizations to promote forestry programs.
  • Duties are primarily within Kentucky but may occasionally extend to other states.

Additional Information

This position has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months. EEC participates in E-Verify to confirm work authorization in the U.S.
