Forest Park | 5.75hr Mild Mental Disability Special Education Assistant

PURPOSE

Aid teachers with various instructional, clerical, and student management tasks for special education students in either special education or general classrooms.

Work Schedule

School year
Work Hours: Shifts typically between 7:15am and 3:30pm, with exact times varying based on school needs and position hours.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous experience working with students with special needs preferred
• Flexible to meet changing student needs
• Strong tutorial skills
• Ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents
• Desire to see young people succeed
• Positive attitude and ability to work independently
• Strong office computer and communication skills
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
• Basic instructional methods and techniques
• Willingness to supervise students in community settings
• Participation in Special Education Department training
• Prefer candidates with: Two years of college experience, two-year college degree, Para-Pro Assessment pass, one year or 1000 hours of previous school/work experience, annual school-level evaluations, 48 credit hours of college level classes, or Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials
