About the role
As a forerunner, your main responsibility is to assist the routesetting team in testing and finalizing boulder skeletons by physically climbing them. You may be required to climb boulders repeatedly to assess difficulty, functionality, equitability, and potential risk. You must also be able to articulate in-depth feedback for any suggested edits to improve the overall climbing product.
This is a part-time position for up to 3 hours per shift.
Pay
$21.5/hour
Schedule
Must-have availability: Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of climbing experience
- Ability to climb and forerun V7+
- Ability to perform moderate physical activities, which may include pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, climbing, repetitive movement, and/or lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
- Compliance with health and safety regulations
- Strong communication skills
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Willingness to learn about, develop, and improve HMB’s sustainability practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to climb and forerun V9+
- Prior routesetting/forerunning experience
- Knowledge of competition style climbing and/or previous competition experience
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Responsibilities
- Forerun boulders assigned by the Head Setter
- Physically climb boulders to assess difficulty, functionality, equitability, and potential risk
- Identify fall hazards or high-risk movement
- Ladder usage
- Assist in zone breakdown at end of day
- Communicate equipment, repairs, or supply needs to the Head Route Setter
- Perform other duties as requested by management
