About the role
The Forensic Scientist - Toxicology is a full-time, on-site role based in Jefferson City/Cape Girardeau or Springfield, MO. This position is responsible for conducting toxicological analyses of biological specimens to detect and quantify drugs, alcohol, and other substances related to criminal and traffic investigations.
Responsibilities
- Receive and document evidence
- Perform laboratory tests using established protocols and instrumentation
- Interpret analytical results
- Prepare clear, accurate reports
- Maintain laboratory records and equipment
- Adhere to quality assurance and safety standards
- Provide expert testimony in court when needed
- Collaborate with other forensic scientists, law enforcement officers, and legal professionals
Qualifications
- Analytical skills for data evaluation, problem-solving, and quality control in a scientific laboratory setting
- Laboratory skills, including sample handling, use and maintenance of analytical instruments, and adherence to safety and quality protocols
- Skills in proper evidence handling, documentation, chain-of-custody procedures, and report preparation
- Knowledge of criminal investigations processes and the role of forensic toxicology in supporting law enforcement and court proceedings
- Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, chemistry, toxicology, or a closely related scientific field is required
- Attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential
- Experience in an accredited forensic or analytical laboratory and familiarity with courtroom testimony or legal procedures are beneficial
