The Role

The Forensic Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System is offered through the Forensic Neuropsychiatry division of the Tulane Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The goal of the fellowship is to enhance and broaden the fellow’s forensic assessment skills. Under supervision, fellows will conduct forensic evaluations at an inpatient forensic hospital (Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System - ELMHS) and in private cases.

Responsibilities

• Conduct forensic evaluations at an inpatient forensic hospital (Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System - ELMHS) and in private cases.
• Perform a wide variety of forensic mental health assessments with forensic patients, incarcerated individuals, as well as those in the community.
• Select, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests with the goal of writing high-quality integrated forensic reports.
• Conduct additional forensic assessments through private evaluations in person in the greater New Orleans area and as a remote evaluator.
• Participate in administrative and clinical meetings, conduct forensic research, and when possible, supervise other trainees under the umbrella supervision of a licensed psychologist.
• Lead the ACGME-required Forensic Journal Club/Research Seminar.
• Observe a board-certified psychologist testify and receive supervision on report writing for court and discussion of expert witness skills.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology with a specialization in forensic psychology or a closely related field. Applicants should have completed a pre-doctoral internship in forensic psychology or a closely related field. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Louisiana.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in forensic neuropsychological testing, competency to stand trial evaluations, and violence risk assessments. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong analytical and organizational abilities.

Skills

Strong skills in psychological testing, forensic assessment, and report writing are required. Familiarity with legal and medical terminology is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
