About the Role

Under direction, this employee performs court-ordered forensic evaluations, including competency to stand trial, mental status at the time of the alleged offense, diminished capacity, and commitability. The role involves documenting contacts in the medical record, submitting forensic conference reports to the court within designated time frames, and completing appropriate risk assessment instruments and psychological assessments as needed. The employee evaluates commitability and completes Certificates of Need for involuntary care and treatment. Patients adjudicated as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity will be seen regularly, with contacts documented. The employee may be subpoenaed to testify in court regarding the findings of forensic evaluations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a doctorate in psychology from an accredited university.
  • Licensure or temporary permit as a psychologist with the State of Tennessee.
  • Certification by the Division of Planning, Research, and Forensics to perform forensic evaluations (must be renewed every two fiscal years).
