Forensic Mortuary Technician I

Responsibilities

• Assisting Mortuary Operations Supervisors in unit operations
• Performing Mortuary Procedures and decedent handling (METT, Check In, Storage, Release of Remains, Intake and Release photos, and Fingerprinting)
• Preparing incident reports, schedules, and statistics as needed
• Operating OCME Case Management System (CMS), CMS Mobile App, and other systems for documents (Death Certificates, Burial Permits)
• Ensuring Mortuary areas are cleaned, stocked, and sanitized daily
• Reporting complaints, accidents, and incidents to proper personnel
• Performing City Morgue Technician duties as needed
• Weighing remains, lifting remains into storage compartments, boxes, and loading City Burial
• Operating a motor vehicle to transport to death scenes
• Taking fingerprints of remains before, during, and/or after autopsy
• Performing borough case reconciliations
• Attending unit and agency meetings as requested
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization
• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in mortuary and/or autopsy work
• Two years of experience for Assignment Level II
• Four years of experience for Assignment Level III, with two years in a supervisory capacity

Preferred Skills

• A motor vehicle driver’s license in the state of New York
