Job Summary

We’re seeking a Forensic Electrical Engineer to join our team in Florida. In this remote/home office role, you will investigate and evaluate the root cause and extent of failures and damage involving electrical systems, components, and devices across residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • C Conduct field inspections to determine the origin, cause, and extent of electrical failures, including fires, explosions, and system malfunctions.

  • B Develop clear, well-supported conclusions and produce comprehensive technical reports and documentation.

  • C Provide timely, professional updates to clients, attorneys, insurers, and internal stakeholders; manage expectations and maintain strong relationships.

  • D Work independently from a home office while leveraging internal experts and resources; build long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners.

  • E Drive investigations through completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations and industry standards.

  • F Contribute ideas that strengthen processes, tools, and customer outcomes; help others navigate change and adopt improvements.

Experience Qualifications and Experience

  • A 5–10 years of experience working with or designing electrical systems.

  • B Forensic engineering experience strongly preferred.

  • C Experience investigating electrical failures, fires, or explosions.

  • D Expert witness experience, including depositions and trial testimony, preferred.

  • E Strong technical writing skills; ability to produce clear, defensible reports is critical.

  • F Strong verbal communication and client service skills.

  • G Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.

  • H Proficiency with technical tools (computers, cameras, and engineering software).

Licensure & Certifications

  • I Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida is required, or eligible by reciprocity.

  • J Additional state licenses or ability to obtain via reciprocity preferred.

  • K CFEI (NAFI), CFI, or related certifications preferred.

  • L NCEES Record preferred.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • M Ability to perform field investigations, including inspections in confined spaces and industrial environments.

  • N Ability to transport equipment and conduct site assessments safely.

  • O Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed, including occasional overnight travel.

Education

  • P Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.

  • Q Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred.

Location

Remote (home office) – U.S.-based (major metro areas preferred)

Compensation & Benefits

  • R Base salary range: $120,000 – $170,000.

  • S In addition to the base salary, the compensation plan includes additional, nondiscretionary compensation based on billable productivity above a minimum threshold.

  • T Employees may elect at any time to transition to a model based primarily on a higher percentage of their billable rate applied to all billable hours worked.

  • U In practice, most employees choose to transition between approximately one and three years, once their billable hours support consistently higher earnings under this model.
