Forensic Electrical Engineer - Boston, MA

About the role

Join Rimkus, a worldwide leader in engineering and technical consulting, as an Electrical Engineer specializing in forensic consulting services. In this role, you will assess and determine the cause and origin of electrical failures and damages for insurance, legal, industrial, and other clients. You will provide oral and written reports of findings and expert testimony when needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform investigation and analysis within the field of electrical engineering based on a client-approved scope of work and budget to resolve claims and legal matters.
• Conduct field investigations to study and determine the cause and origin of electrical system defects and equipment failures.
• Prepare oral and written reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, repair scope, and recommended remediation.
• Provide expert testimony in litigation matters.
• Manage multiple projects, coordinating with other experts to produce client reports promptly.
• Ensure compliance with Rimkus policies and procedures, including safe work requirements, electrical engineering standards, land use laws, and regulations.
• Initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
• Gather photographic evidence, conduct on-site investigations, oversee field testing, and review historical documentation.
• Use tools such as cameras, microscopes, electrical testing equipment, and digital imaging techniques to document conditions in the field and lab.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (required).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (required).
• 2-10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with field experience highly preferred.
• Depending on location, additional licenses or certifications may be required.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable form of transportation.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with clients at all levels.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computer-assisted engineering and design software.

• Strong technical writing skills for scopes of work, budget estimates, schedules, reports, proposals, and correspondence.
• Ability to present information effectively to management, clients, public groups, and boards of directors.
• Physical ability to climb ladders, walk on roofs, work in confined spaces, shovel debris, move furniture, and operate lifts.

Physical Demands and Travel

Work is performed in both office settings and various outside locations, including clients' offices, industrial, construction, and residential sites. The role requires frequent standing, walking on sloped roofs, climbing ladders, bending, crawling in attics or under structures, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Employees may lift and move up to 50 pounds. Sharp focus, alertness, and clear vision are necessary for site inspections, client interactions, report preparation, and testimony.

This position is salaried with exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime required. Up to 25% travel may be necessary, including some out-of-area and overnight travel.
