About the role
We're seeking a Forensic Autopsy Technician to join our team. This role involves assisting the pathologist in performing post-mortem exams, maintaining records, and preparing equipment and supplies for autopsies.
Responsibilities
- Follows universal precautions and adheres to safety regulations.
- Performs tasks such as opening skulls, removing organs, and closing incisions.
- Maintains correct tissue identification and cleans, drapes, and stores bodies.
- Prepares and sets up equipment and tools needed for autopsies.
- Ensures the morgue area is clean and well-supplied.
- Prepares and labels specimen containers and submits tests as requested.
- Maintains autopsy-related records and initiates on-call schedules.
- Delivers compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with hospital values.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence.
- Documents care and supports operations using hospital systems and tools.
- Improves processes and supports patient and staff satisfaction.
Requirements
- 2 years of undergraduate education in a relevant field (Biology, Mortuary Science, Forensics).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least one year of specifically related experience in autopsies or relevant healthcare settings.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to patient-first, high-quality service.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work flexible hours and varied shifts.
Skills
- Knowledge of universal precautions and safety regulations.
- Experience with autopsy procedures and specimen handling.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and under supervision.
