Forensic Autopsy Technician

About the role

We're seeking a Forensic Autopsy Technician to join our team. This role involves assisting the pathologist in performing post-mortem exams, maintaining records, and preparing equipment and supplies for autopsies.

Responsibilities

• Follows universal precautions and adheres to safety regulations.
• Performs tasks such as opening skulls, removing organs, and closing incisions.
• Maintains correct tissue identification and cleans, drapes, and stores bodies.
• Prepares and sets up equipment and tools needed for autopsies.
• Ensures the morgue area is clean and well-supplied.
• Prepares and labels specimen containers and submits tests as requested.
• Maintains autopsy-related records and initiates on-call schedules.
• Delivers compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with hospital values.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence.
• Documents care and supports operations using hospital systems and tools.
• Improves processes and supports patient and staff satisfaction.

Requirements

• 2 years of undergraduate education in a relevant field (Biology, Mortuary Science, Forensics).
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least one year of specifically related experience in autopsies or relevant healthcare settings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to patient-first, high-quality service.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work flexible hours and varied shifts.

Skills

• Knowledge of universal precautions and safety regulations.
• Experience with autopsy procedures and specimen handling.
• Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and under supervision.

Pay

$24.75 – $37.13 hourly, based on experience and qualifications.
