Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility

The Assistant Football Coach will be responsible for the development and performance of the quarterback position while assisting in all aspects of a competitive intercollegiate football program.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to Christian higher education, student-athlete development, academic success, spiritual formation, and competitive excellence. This individual will work collaboratively with the Head Football Coach, offensive staff, athletic administration, faculty, and campus community to create a positive and transformational experience for student-athletes.

The Assistant Football Coach – Quarterbacks serves as an educator, mentor, recruiter, and role model, helping student-athletes grow academically, athletically, spiritually, and personally.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities

    1. Quarterback Coaching and Development
    • Coach and develop quarterbacks in all aspects of position-specific performance.
    • Teach offensive concepts, quarterback mechanics, footwork, throwing techniques, leadership skills, decision-making, and football IQ.
    • Congduct individual and group position meetings.
    • Develop and implement quarterback development plans.
    • Evaluate practice and game performance through video analysis.
    • Monitor athlete progress and provide constructive feedback.
    • Prepare quarterbacks for competition through film study and opponent analysis.
    • Foster leadership qualities among quarterbacks and encourage accountability within the team.
    1. Offensive Football Operations
    • Assist in designing, implementing, and teaching offensive schemes and philosophies.
    • Participate in offensive game planning and strategy development.
    • Assist with practice organization and execution.
    • Prepare scouting reports and breakdowns of opponents.
    • Utilize film analysis software and technology platforms to enhance player development and game preparation.
    • Contribute ideas and recommendations regarding offensive strategies and personnel decisions.
    • Assist with game-day coaching responsibilities.
    1. Recruiting Responsibilities
    • Recruit prospective student-athletes who align with the mission, values, and standards of Bethel University.
    • Identify, evaluate, and communicate with prospective student-athletes and their families.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with high school coaches, junior college coaches, club organizations, and recruiting contacts.
    • Cordinate recruiting visits and campus experiences.
    • Maintain recruiting databases and records.
    • Meet established recruiting goals and roster management objectives.
    • Represent the University professionally during recruiting activities.
    1. Student-Athlete Mentorship and Development
    • Promote academic achievement and student retention.
    • Monitor academic progress and support student-athlete success initiatives.
    • Serve as a mentor and positive role model.
    • Encourage personal growth, character development, leadership, and spiritual maturity.
    • Aid student-athletes in balancing academic, athletic, and personal responsibilities.
    • Support student-athlete wellness and mental well-being.
    • Aid in promoting sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and personal accountability.
    1. Spiritual Leadership
    • Model Christian character and servant leadership.
    • Encourage spiritual growth among student-athletes.
    • Support team devotionals, chapel participation, and faith-based activities.
    • Create an environment that reflects Christian values and respect for all members of the University community.
    • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the University’s mission and values.
    1. Program Administration
    • Assist with daily operations of the football program.
    • Support scheduling and coordination of team activities.
    • Assist with equipment management and inventory.
    • Participate in fundraising and community engagement efforts.
    • Assist with football camps, clinics, and outreach programs.
    • Aid in alumni relations and donor engagement initiatives.
    • Attend departmental meetings and professional development opportunities.
    • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach, Athletic Director, or University administration.
    1. Compliance Responsibilities
    • Adhere to all University, conference, and governing association rules and regulations.
    • Maintain compliance with recruiting, eligibility, financial aid, and participation requirements.
    • Participate in required compliance education and training.
    • Report potential violations appropriately and promptly.
    • Promote a culture of integrity and ethical conduct.

Physical Requirements

  • Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Environmental Conditions

  • Work involves intermittent to occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements; may involve some contact with potentially hazardous or harmful elements in providing administrative or support services.
