About the role

This position supports the Global Technical Services (GTS) team, specifically product development. The role reports to the Director of Product Development and collaborates with packaging, quality assurance, and compliance departments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the product development lab facility, including record keeping, weighing ingredients, basic lab analysis (pH, brix, etc.), sensory evaluation, and reporting results.
  • Input formulas in ENTR software to evaluate nutrition.
  • Maintain sample FIFO and inventory for finished product retains and raw ingredients; organize and dispose of expired samples unless used for shelf life testing.
  • Manage shelf life testing of finished products: send samples to labs, conduct sensory analysis, and write reports.
  • Organize and update technical documents for raw materials and finished products, including product specifications, manufacturing procedures, and nutritional information.
  • Input data into Filemaker database; collect, analyze, and document raw material ingredients.
  • Monitor pH, brix, solids, color, and sensory profiles of ingredients and products.
  • Evaluate new raw materials through sensory analysis, performance testing, and specification reviews; assist with material setup after approval.
  • Ensure quality of incoming ingredients by reviewing COAs, collecting samples, and inspecting/tasting items (critical for açaí purees).
  • Participate in finished product sensory evaluations and manage new product sensory testing with cross-functional teams, tracking feedback and action items.
  • Maintain lab organization and cleanliness; schedule monthly freezer cleanouts.
  • Schedule equipment calibration and maintenance; monitor refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily; order lab materials as needed.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Nutrition, or a similar science-based discipline.
  • One to two years of work experience (including internships) preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, daily tasks, and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) for collaboration with cross-functional teams, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • High energy, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and analyses.
  • Food science, quality assurance, and/or manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic math (algebra, percentages) and MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Filemaker and ENTR software is a plus.
