Responsibilities
- Develops new products and line extensions from bench top to commercialization.
- Performs pilot plant tests to generate product prototypes, documents results, organizes product reviews, and communicates project progress verbally and in writing.
- Runs production tests at manufacturing plants to develop commercially viable new products or reformulated products to improve quality.
- Works with an online formulation database system to create or adjust product formulations.
- Maintains accurate project files, formulations, specifications, and product/project data.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Process Control) to provide product development support.
- Improves product development skills through training, understanding of USDA/FDA regulations, and hands-on project work.
- Assists other R&D team members in generating product prototypes as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the direct manager.
Requirements
- Understanding of methods and ingredients used in product development.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and ingredient labeling is a plus.
- Strong scientific knowledge of meat and non-meat ingredients and their functionality.
- Able to work with pilot plant equipment with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in online work systems and product development software tools.
- Continuously improves food/meat science and product development skills and understands current plant process systems.
- Ability to complete required forms in English (read and write).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
- Works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and builds strong working relationships in a team-oriented setting.
